The girls conspired against me. They bought me a ticket to Auckland, and shipped me off there last week with Kenna. At least it was a return ticket, so I know I'm loved. Kenna and I arrived at Melbourne Airport bright and early Monday morning to check in our bags, only to find the Qantas check in queue stretched all the way back to the domestic check in terminal. We waited roughly an hour and a half before we got to the front of the queue. While we waited, we also had the privilege of having our bags sniffed by the police dogs. Luckily, no drugs in my baggage. Well, none the dog could sniff, anyway..
Arriving in Auckland, and wandering aimlessly through the streets, I actually forgot I was in a different country. The streets were very similar, the shops all the same, and the accent is very similar to Australia. Even the money was similar to Australia. The atmosphere reminded me very much of Canberra. Nice and cosy, laid back. The trip, once again, was very much a food trip. We ate SO much. God.
In search of food, Kenna, Luong and I tried to find Harbourside City Yum Cha on our last day, a place we ate a few days earlier. We were hopeless. All I remember was that it was located near the Wharf. Kenna remembered its name, and Luong remembered it was next to a parking lot. Eek. Can you imagine us driving around Auckland city looking for this restaurant with a map to direct us, looking for parking lots near the wharf?! A whole hour travelling in and out of the city, and accidentally getting on and off the freeway not once, but twice. Half an hour later, Kenna thought of an ingenius idea. The receipt the last time we ate! Surely, that would have the address? We were out of luck. No address. But! There was a number! We could call, and get the address. Winnii tried calling, but alas, she had no credit left on her phone. It just wasn't meant to be. So, after driving around with the intention of finding this restaurant, we headed out of the city, without food in our belly. Sigh.
