It wasn't meant to be

Trinh organised for the girls to go to Melbourne Cup this year, weather permitting. The conditions were (as stated by Trinh the Monday before): 'Wake up at 7am, look outside your window. If it's not raining, meet at Jen's by 8am, otherwise it's off'.

I get a message from her at 6:52am Tuesday morning with, 'It's not raining, we're going to the Cup! Meet at Jen's by 8am!' So.. I got up and got dressed. On the way to Jen's place with Winnii and Kad, it starts to pour, and the trip to the Cup is cancelled. So we had a party at Jen's place instead. Gosh, were we gamblers on the day. It was made especially easier with the TAB just around the corner, which was useful for Trinh and Cyrus during the day because they were unable to drive.

Poor Jenny though. It wasn't her day. A reliable source proclaimed she should mortgage her house on Pop Rock. Not being so silly, she did punt $100 for Pop Rock to place, and had a long conversation with the guy at TAB there. An hour later, at her place, she noticed that the guy had placed the WRONG bet for her: number 12 in race 3 instead of number 12 in race 7. Not happy, she went back and spoke to the guy. He was very generous though, he remembered her, and gave her $100 from his own wallet, and passed her onto another guy to place the bet for her again ('coz he was on his break). As she was placing about 5 bets at the time, she looked at them, and noticed that one of the bets was incorrect. So she got that quickly fixed, went home. Race seven arrived, and off went the horses. And yea! Pop Rock came in 2nd! So off to collect her winnings, she returned with a fallen face: the guy had placed the WRONG bet for her. He put Pop Rock down for a win, not a place. It wasn't meant to be.

In other news, I finally started working again, after a few stops and starts. I've joined Australia Post in the Post Logistics division. It's been interesting so far; I've been fortunate enough to see the stamp production factory/warehouse, and the letter sorting centre. The only odd thing so far is that I'm still waiting for my Security card. However, the funniest part to it is that the only time I need the security card is to get OUT of the toilets. Not in, but OUT. How odd. That, and, my computer sucks. I went from a 1gig of memory down to 128mb on NT. Jesus. I can't wait til my laptop arrives. Excel crashed four times on me today whilst I did a copy and paste on 30,000 lines or removing the auto filter. Shocking.

Cup pix have been uploaded.

  1. I bet on Pop Rock too. Simply because it was number 12(same day as birthday) and silly thing is i usually bet on number 2, because when I was a kid if I couldn't have 12 for something I'd second best with 2. And naturally 2 was the winning horse number, so I would have done nicely. But alas having a horse I bet on finish in the top 3 made it all the more lovely :)

You all looked totally spunky and gorgeous though. Shame you didn't get to go, but looks like you horsed about anyway and had a great time :)

    *hugs*

Goodluck with the new job :)
