I actually wanted to write more about Kara no Kyoukai. Like I mentioned in my last post, it is one of the best animes I have seen. I actually think it IS my favourite anime. I must admit I haven't seen many - not like Phuongy, or Arv or Judy has, but the movies are amazing. I didn't think anime films could be this well written, this deep, or this philosophical.
It's quite a dark series, and what I find fascinating is that there is no clear cut black/white good/bad guys. The animation is amazing, and the story lines are so deep and complex, it is fascinating. The main protagonist isn't your typical heroine. She's quiet, sullen, irritated most of the time, and yet she completely draws you in. I loved her by the end of the seventh movie. There is so much depth to her character - she must be one of the most well thought out characters ever written. It's such a well thought out series that I'm amazed the story was a draft for a different novel.
Word of warning though - this is no light hearted series. There were some scenes that were quite disturbing - girls getting raped, brutal murders, cannibalism and the like. Some scenes made me quite uncomfortable, but the action scenes where the heroine, Ryougi Shiki, kicks ass, were pretty damn good. What's not to like about a sword wielding kimono wearing gorgeous heroine?
A definite must watch if you are an anime fan.
