Journalists...

I was woken up 8am Sunday morning by a journalist from the Channel Nine news knocking at the door. She was after Nhan Nguyen - my brother, who lives with his girlfriend in Rowville. Sure, I said, this was still his official address, though he doesn't really live here anymore. And I have another brother, she asks? Umm... No, I say slowly.. She starts looking a little uncomfortable - I don't have two brothers, she asks? Umm.. No, just the one, I reply. Oh, she replies - she must have the wrong family.

Excuse me? I asked. She went on to explain how she wanted to interview the family of the two drowned men in the Murray River, one whose name was Nhan Nguyen, and who died with his brother.

Oh, I say.. Definitely the wrong house, I tell her. Off she went, to the next family! Phew. Lucky it wasn't my brother. But it freaked my mum out - she called Nhan up to make sure it wasn't him, even though I told her he doesn't have a brother.. What relief when she heard his voice!

I thought it was pretty insensitive of the journalist to come a knocking, hoping to get an interview with the family of the deceased, who died the day before. And to think! How many Nhan Nguyens would be living in Melbourne, for Christ sake?! Dodgy Channel Nine!

  1. Did you expect anything less from news reporters!
It's a small world, the two brothers that died was my contractors brother in law. And the two guys that survived, one of them was my contractor. He called me Monday morning and told me he thought he was going to die there. He said he couldn't save the other two and he watched them die... Very sad story.. you can't hide or run from fate...it will come to you...*sigh*
