I flew back into Melbourne Monday afternoon from Hamilton Island. What a trip. What an amazing trip. I honestly had forgotten how much I missed the girls until we were all together again. It’s been so long since we’ve gone away together, and goodness, I had missed them terribly. Note to self: make more time this year for friends.
Hamilton Island was beautiful. It was my first ever relaxing holiday of doing nothing. And boy, there really was nothing to do but relax and have fun. It was very different to all my other holiday trips, and I struggled initially to let go of work to settle into holiday mode, especially relaxed mode. My thoughts are so scrambled at the moment that I’m having trouble piecing together words to describe. I’m flirting in and out of work mode and holiday mode and sleep mode. I had about six hours of sleep all up from the trip, and couldn’t sleep at all the last night there. I left work around 9pm Thursday evening after a five hour meeting of arguing and debate on a bid. I arrived in Hamilton Island Friday morning still in work mode, and wondering how the bid would go. It wasn’t until Friday afternoon that I was able to ease off work after a conversation to James. I arrived back to work Tuesday morning to a sea of controversy, and dragged into a meeting for 7 hours to “fix” my numbers. Seven hours later, I confirmed that there was nothing to "fix" with my numbers. Oh well. Things happen. Anyway, back to the story.
I’m pretty sure Niks had a good time, and an unforgettable trip. I can’t overstate enough how much I’ve missed them, and how good it was just to see them again, and spend time with them. I hadn’t seen Phuong in about 6 months, or Kad for about 5 months, or Niks for about 3 months. It’s been a long time, and I had forgotten how well we got along as a group. Amazingly, I was able to take some decent pictures of the girls for memories as well. And it was nice to get some sun. We were lucky to even get two days of sunshine – someone told us it had been raining the previous two weeks, and will continue to rain as we left. The Gods were smiling down on us.
No stories from the trip – just a very relaxing time, enjoying the pool, beach, the weather, the buggy (!) The first day was… interesting. When we arrived, we found that the air conditioning was broken in our intended apartment, so they put us up in a different area. When we got there, our golf buggy was broken. We didn’t know how long it would take to get a replacement during that day, so we decided to get some essentials for the house. Our villa sat on a pretty steep hill, and so on the way back from the general store, up the hill we went. It looked like an episode from the Biggest Loser: struggling up that hill in 30+ degree heat carrying shopping bags. Phew. I had my workout that day, for sure. Once we did get our buggy though, it was fantastic. It was so much fun cruising around in the little thing!

And that was Hamilton Island. Pictures now uploaded on flickr.
Sixteen days until the wedding, and the countdown has begun. I’m getting so excited about it. It’s going to beautiful, and just perfect.
I know it.
