A wedding to remember

I went to one of the most memorable weddings on the weekend. Sam and Paul. It was absolutely breathtaking. It was so beautiful that from now on, every single wedding I attend will compare to Sam and Paul's wedding. It has set the standard. Kad had specifically asked me to carry tissues for her in case she started crying through the ceremony, but I think I was closer to tears than she was. It was just beautiful. The bride and groom were so relaxed; Sam was absolutely gorgeous, but the thing that made it so beautiful was that you could see how much they love each other. It was clear as crystal, and they were both happy, and were having fun throughout the day. The bride couldn't stop smiling, you could see the admiration in Paul's eyes. Oh, it was beautiful.

The ceremony was nice and simple - the kiss was sweet. Sam's dress was gorgeous! The whole day was seamless - even the weather was perfect; the sun shining the whole day.

The reception was.. *speechless* I want my wedding to be like that. I want my whole day to be like theirs. Ascot House receptions beats any other asian wedding reception I've been to (including the ones I went to when I was younger with my parents). Everything about it was just beautiful. Just.. Perfect. The number of guests (150 approx.) was perfect, because it wasn't too big. It made you feel cozy. I was told that it used to be the Governor's summer house. The room wasn't massively big, it didn't overwhelm you and all the guests. It made you feel nice and close to the bride and groom. Asian weddings I've attended have all had a huge grand room, where the wedding couple is a tiny spec you can hardly make out from your table. Music wasn't blaring constantly throughout the whole night like they do in asian weddings, forcing you to yell to the person sitting next to you. The bride didn't change into a dozen different dresses - she had fun, and was relaxed. The wedding dance was so sweet! It was simple, wasn't perfect, but it made you smile, because you could see they both were enjoying themselves, and didn't mind that they made mistakes. Everyone cheered them on. I think that's what made the difference - most other weddings the bride is always stressed out that everything wasn't perfect, but here, Sam was happy. And having the time of her life. And it showed.

But my favourite part of the night was the speeches. Oh, that pulled at my heartstrings *sniff* I've never heard of such loving speeches at a wedding. Every wedding I've been to, there hasn't been much emphasis on speeches, and the main gist of each speech has been, 'I've known such and such for years, and I'm glad to see them happy, hope they live happily ever after. Hope I can find someone like that (or something thereabouts), and thanks for coming'. Maybe add a joke in there somewhere. Quick, easy, done. Bride and groom would thank everyone for coming, say they're very happy.. Quick, easy, done. Not Sam and Paul's wedding.

There was so much thought and effort put into the speeches, and it clearly stood out. The best man talked about the groom and how they've been friends for such a long time, and complimented on how beautiful Sam was, and what a beautiful person she was, and how lucky Sam and Paul were to have found each other (I've never heard a best man talk about the bride at a wedding before - it was all focused on the groom and his friendship with the groom). The maid of honour (Sam's older sister, Mandy) talked about how loyal Sam was to all her friends, what she was like growing up, how Sam was like the eldest of the sisters because she was always taking care of her sisters. When she spoke of Paul, she said (and I quote): 'Paul is a gentleman, in every sense of the word'. That was my favourite line of the night. Nicely said.

Paul spoke of how beautiful Sam was, inside and out, thanked her for everything she's ever done for him. Sam thanked people for their help, talked about her sisters and how much she respects and loves them. She shared stories of them growing up, how she loved dressing her youngest sister every single morning, how she lived with her other younger sister, Belinda, and how much fun they had, how she shared a room with Mandy for much of their lives and got along great. She spoke of how wonderful Paul is, how much she respects and admires him, how he is the most beautiful person she's ever met.

It was such a beautiful wedding. I'll end with something Kad said on the day, which was supposed to go into their wedding card from us, but I stuffed up the writing, so I'll post here instead.

Congratulations! Wishing one of the loveliest couples we've ever met a beautiful wedding, and endless happy, memorable moments for many years to come!
