A moment in time

It’s Monday morning, 30 March 2009. I’m at work, waiting for my 600K+ number of lines file in excel to calculate, and it’s taking a ridiculous amount of time. So I thought I would write, an entry I want to remember. A moment in time I believe will be special, in years to come.

I have been in almost daily contact with Winnii since I’ve been reconnected to the internet world. Either by phone, or by chat. It’s such a nice feeling to be up to date with her whereabouts, moods, and thoughts, and vice versa. It’s usually been a catch up in the past, weekly if we’re lucky, but now that it’s an on time thing at the moment, it took some getting used to. By Winnii, I mean.

Last week, we talked on the phone late at night (it was around 11pm) about her meet up with Alan, and how he had just left her apartment, and their evening together. We talked for a good half an hour. The very next morning, we chatted online, and the following conversation ensued:

Winnii: Alan came over last night
Thuy: He came over again last night?
Winnii: Yes
Thuy: Really…? He came over again after he left?
Winnii: We spent the evening together
Thuy: Wait.. Was this before or after you talked to me?
Winnii: Oh, I’m on cloud nine
Thuy: ??? I’m confused – did he return after he left your apartment?
Winnii: Wait.. Hhave you heard this story?
Thuy: Uhh… Well, if it’s the story where he came over, and it was before 11pm, then yes...
Winnii: Really?
Thuy: We talked on the phone last night after he left?
Winnii: I thought we talked two nights ago..
Thuy: No babes.. It was 12 hours ago
Winnii: Oh, I’m so used to filling you in as a catch up – this is weird that you know already!
Thuy: Hehehe. You dag
Winnii: Oh, I’m on cloud nine *sigh* ... I’m going to marry him

And on cloud nine she stayed the rest of the week, buoyed by excitement that their date was upcoming and approaching fast after a hectic week of work.

So. Sunday morning. Yesterday. I had just gotten out of bed a little after 9:30am, when Winnii called. I answered immediately, thinking something was wrong. Winnii was up at 9am? What the? But she was fine. She had called to fill me in on her date from Friday evening with Alan. My smile is so wide typing this, because I remember how happy she sounded. I knew she had been looking forward to the date, and I was hoping, hoping, hoping it would go well.

And it did. It went so well. I could hear the happiness and the dreaminess in her voice. She was on an even greater cloud nine, and I was so happy for her. It made my day. I can’t wait to meet this guy. He’s going to be known as the guy who swept Winnii off her feet to me. And she mentioned he told her he was going to marry her, even though he has no idea she has said the same thing to Jen and I. And, should they get married down the track, then I can dig out this entry, and remember the start of something special. All that is still years away, but knowing she’s found someone who has potential – now that’s a big call. So he must be pretty special.

So their first date started Friday evening, and ended Sunday morning. She had just gotten home, called Jenny to fill her in on the news, and then called me to fill me in as well. How special is that? It’s unheard of, and yet, so sweet. The girls mean the world to me, so to hear how happy she was, that dreamy, starry eyed, mesmerising, hushed whisper to her voice. Oh, it made me happy.

This is an event I want to look back and think, yes, that was a moment in time.
