The Quaint, Sleepy Launceston

Launceston, Launceston. Another tick off my list of destinations within Australia I’ve ventured to. This time around, it was with Lee, Jen and Pooh Bear. Poor Niks was in bed with a gastro infection, so couldn’t travel. The drama started before the trip even began, with Pooh Bear almost not travelling with us(!) Thankfully she did, ‘coz I would’ve missed her company.

Launceston was such a picturesque town! Seated upon a hilly valley, the town reminded me a little of the smaller older European cities. Quite a small city, the weather held up quite well. We didn’t get up to much. Jen and Lee can claim they experienced the muddy equivalent of the Gold Coast’s ‘Wet n Wild’ ride. They were covered in mud, head to toe, with their snow boots and gum boots containing a whole cup of mud in their feet after the ride. Pictures up soon. So Pooh and I sat and listened to them tell of their many bruises, and sore back for the next 24 hours. I’m so glad I didn’t do it, especially without a change of clothes.

We exchanged ghost stories in our cosy little hut/townhouse that evening over a nice concoction of apple liquer, and perhaps freaked ourselves out in the process… Winnii had a great recent ghost story. Gosh. Too bad Niks wasn’t there to tell us of her stories! Poor Jen. She always wants to experience it, and just.. never hears or sees anything.

So.. We were supposed to sleep in a bigger apartment (Phuongy was potentially travelling with us), but there was a water leak in that apartment, so they gave us keys to 2 adjacent apartments, and we effectively each had a room to ourselves; Jen and Pooh in one apartment, Lee and I in the other. Hehehe. Not sure about Jen and Pooh, but Lee and I kept the hallway light on, and our doors open JUST IN CASE. Hehehe.

Our quick trip ended with a road trip that took us through Freshwater Point, Exeter, and all the way down to Beaconsfield, before we ran out of time, and travelled back to the airport.

Still want to do a hike in Tasmania though. Definitely still on my list of things to do.
