The difference of a few seconds

I was reminded how fragile our lives are on the weekend, when I heard that Lee’s ex, Thuan, was in a car accident last month. The other car ran a red light, and crashed into his car. He was in the hospital for a month, undergoing treatment. He’s in a stable condition now, but the accident has changed him forever. He’s undergoing intense physiotherapy now, and hopefully he’ll recover enough and may even walk again.

It just makes you realise that no matter how much you do, how careful you are, there could be a careless person on the road, who could cause someone’s life to change permanently in those few seconds.

It hammers home the carelessness of people when I hear stories that they will intentionally drive while under the influence. Fair enough you think it’s your life, and if you get hurt, ok, sure, that’s a risk you’re willing to take. But, what if, out of your own stupidity, you come out of that accident unscathed, but the person in the other car was terribly injured?

It makes me wonder.
