I'm tired tonight. It feels like it's been a long day. Garry and I went to visit Stuart in hospital this morning, and I was really looking forward to seeing him. I had received an email from Craig just before Christmas to not visit him yet til he recovered a little more, so I've been holding off. Can you imagine my disappointment when Garry returned to work earlier this week to tell me that an email was sent out a day after Craig's email to let us know we could visit him? I wasn't cc'ed into that email because I'm no longer part of BD.
It's been bothering me since. I could've visited him before Christmas. I think he would've been happy to have some company. He's been in hospital since Melbourne Cup - that's early November. Two months. Sigh.
So Garry and I went to visit him this morning, because I had to go pick up my car in Villawood anyway, and Liverpool isn't too far from there. Sigh. The hospital was large, and we had minimal information, other than his room number, and that he was on level four. Do you know how hard it is to find a patient with minimal information? We got directed to different buildings, to different levels, and we wandered around the hospital for close to an hour, trying to find him.
Punch line?
It turns out he had been dismissed on Christmas Eve, and was admitted into a rehabilitation centre. That's good for him; at least he's not in hospital anymore. We get back to the office, and tell Chris the story, and Chris says, 'oh hey! I knew that, actually.. I just forgot to tell you...'
A little more digging, and we now know where he's staying - in Westmead. Apparently it's further out than Parramatta. Garry and I are going to try and make some time to see him. It was really sad listening to Suresh this morning (Suresh visited him before restrictions were placed) talk about his visit with Stuart. I remember how much people changed after a stroke from working with the council years ago. It used to affect me as well. It makes you appreciate life much more, seeing how quickly people can deteriorate and change.
Hopefully Stuart's recovering well. I miss him at work. He was meant to be my boss, and right now, he can't even talk. Sigh.
