I was pulled into a last minute meeting yesterday to discuss a new project I'm supposed to be working on. Let's call it Project X. Because I've been so busy with another project, I missed a few of the initial meetings earlier this week, and had a lot of catching up to do. To spice it up a little, Project X consists of 5 different proposals. Then, to make it even more confusing, there are three Paul's on this project - an internal Paul contact, a consultant Paul, and the client contact, Paul. Our GM for Retail BD, Matt, kept getting confused with the various Pauls, so he would just mention a Paul, expecting Craig and I to get the drift.
So as I was trying to catch up on this project, and scoping out what I needed to do between the various 5 proposals (4 of which I knew nothing about), and the various Pauls, the following conversation ensued between Matt, and our BD Director, Craig:
Matt: Yes, I need to contact Paul, and touch base with him
Craig: You know something? I think we should bring Fred the Frog down from Bris Vegas for a day and spend time with him
Matt: You realise you'll have to cop a flight if Fred the Frog travels?
Craig: I don't care. Don't you think we need to speak to Fred the Frog?
Matt: I do, and I agree it's better if we speak to him face to face
Craig: Definitely. And besides, if he travels, then he can meet me, and he can meet Tweedles here, and he can meet Shona too
Matt: You also realise that bringing him down from Bris Vegas for a day means he won't be here for a full day?
Craig: Yes, I understand that. But spending a few hours with Fred the Frog is better than communicating backwards and forwards via email or phone calls
Matt: Oh yes, I agree with you. Now, I may or may not be here when he does arrive, you’re aware of that?
Craig: Yes, that’s ok. Right now, you need to concentrate on your new Howardette!
*Craig is referring to Matt's new baby, and because our MD's name is Howard, the new baby is Howardette
Matt laughs
Craig: Besides, Tweedles and I will be here to meet him, and wine and dine him
Matt: That’s true. So.. It’s decided then. I’ll arrange for Fred the Frog to fly down from Bris Vegas, and we’ll meet with him for a few hours to discuss this project
Craig: Yes, and we can take him out to see our back shed as well
*Our back shed isn't really a shed.. It's a 10,000m2 facility
Matt: Yes, that’s a good idea
Thuy: Wait, wait! Who’s Fred the Frog? Is it our internal guy, or the client?
Craig: Fred the Frog is everyone and his dog
*Thuy scribbles everyone and his dog down in her notebook
So one of the Paul's morphed into Fred the Frog, who turned into a dog…
