Thoroughly Googled

I was in James' office yesterday when I noticed his desktop had an iGoogle webpage embedded in his actual desktop. I asked him what it was.. So we got distracted from work, and he showed me iGoogle and Google Desktop.

So.. Umm.. Hehehe. Being the geek that I am, I added it to my work laptop, and damn! It looks good! And Google Desktop is so much faster than the standard Windows search engine too. Like, you press control twice, and then search on something - could be an email, a file, a webpage, and it'll return them all. Not like the Windows search engine at all. Faster, less memory, and more convenient.

I love it. So.. I now have gmail, blogger and twitter all in one webpage, and it's just easy to view updates and the like. How convenient! And I have a work tab too on the same homepage, with Google Maps, Wikipedia, The Age, Quote of the Day, NASA, Weather, and National Geographic.. all on the one page.

None of you readers' here have seen my work environment, but I have two split monitors, and I work off both. My secondary monitor has Outlook, iTunes and msn (so I don't get distracted while working by tabbing between applications), whilst the primary monitor has Excel, Powerpoint and all my work documents open. Quite organised, eh? And it's always bugged me that I had to go from gmail, to blogger, to flickr, to twitter, just to see my updates. Always looking to minimize the number of applications/switching pages, and iGoogle allows me to do that.

I'm loving it already. In a few weeks, I'm going to be asking myself how I lived without it?!
