The Tijuca

I attended the Wallenius Wilhelmson Logistics ship unveiling last night – their newest addition, the Tijuca. Wow! What an event! Gosh, I had so much fun. I was able to release the inner geek in me.. Well, ok, I’m a geek usually anyway. But I was fascinated! On the way there, crossing the West Gate, I could clearly see it. It was HUGE! Bright orange/red and white, you could see clearly WALLENIUS WILHELMSON on the side. It made me excited just seeing it on the bridge, before we even got there!

The ship was 233m in length, 42m high, with 15 floors – 5 of which were movable. Fascinating. It could carry 30,000 tonnes of gross weight, or 8000 cars, which takes them 48 hours to load and strap down. The engine room was three floors high. It could slow down from 17.5 knots to 4 knots in less than five minutes. It only needed 500m of space to do a 180 degree turn. There were only 38-39 life vests on board. Why? Because there were only 29 people on board at any given time - other than the unveiling tour. I could keep rattling off statistics like that for a few more minutes, but I might bore you. But I was impressed. I loved the tour! We were driven around in a little shuttle bus - that's how big the ship was!

They even flew down key personnel from Norway and Korea specifically for the event. Fascinating. James and I looked the youngest in the crowd of mainly senior managers and the like, but we still had fun. We mingled with the crowd, spoke to various people, had good company on our table.

And! I found out more about James as well last night. Always good to find out a bit more about your boss.

So.. some pictures, this time from my little compact, and not the dslr.
