A sound soul resides in a sound mind, which resides in a sound body.
Amen to that.
I needed to change the title of my blog, to reflect a new phase of my life.
This is the third time I've changed my blog - I'm not sure if I've ever written about why I've named my blogs for each period of my life. Let's see...
----------------------------
First Blog - So come with me, we'll go and see the Big Rock Candy Mountains
From the folk song, In the Big Rock Candy Mountains.
This song always puts a smile on my face, because it's about dreaming of an utopian world. Just listen to the lyrics:
One evening as the sun went down
And the jungle fires were burning,
Down the track came a hobo hiking,
And he said, "Boys, I'm not turning
I'm headed for a land that's far away
Beside the crystal fountains
So come with me, we'll go and see
The Big Rock Candy Mountains
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains,
There's a land that's fair and bright,
Where the handouts grow on bushes
And you sleep out every night.
Where the boxcars all are empty
And the sun shines every day
And the birds and the bees
And the cigarette trees
The lemonade springs
Where the bluebird sings
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains.
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
All the cops have wooden legs
And the bulldogs all have rubber teeth
And the hens lay soft-boiled eggs
The farmers' trees are full of fruit
And the barns are full of hay
Oh I'm bound to go
Where there ain't no snow
Where the rain don't fall
The winds don't blow
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains.
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
You never change your socks
And the little streams of alcohol
Come trickling down the rocks
The brakemen have to tip their hats
And the railway bulls are blind
There's a lake of stew
And of whiskey too
You can paddle all around it
In a big canoe
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains,
The jails are made of tin.
And you can walk right out again,
As soon as you are in.
There ain't no short-handled shovels,
No axes, saws nor picks,
I'm bound to stay
Where you sleep all day,
Where they hung the jerk
That invented work
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains.
I'll see you all this coming fall
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
It was during the period when I was still the idealistic dreamer, trying to create my own utopian world, finding my place in this world. I was still at Transit, where my confidence was fading with every passing month, so every time I blogged, and visited my page, it felt like I was escaping my world, and it would cheer me up. You know - create your world, positive thinking.
-----------------------------------
Second Blog: Picture yourself in a boat on a river, with tangerine trees and marmalade skies
I'm a huge Beatles fan, so the first line from Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds is perfect. I think this blog title speaks for itself. I'm a visual person, so picturing a dreamy landscape by the sunset, on vacation somewhere. It makes me smile.
Period from early last year, til now. All about consolidating my life, becoming much more domesticated, paying off all my debts with the furniture from the house; budgeting correctly. Everything falling into place nicely, and the best way to cap this off was this title. It makes you think serenity, peace, comfort, happy, content, vacation - basically, the opposite of my life from a few years before of the hectic social networking, tiring myself out, always exhausted, mentally and emotionally draining times. Period of peace.
---------------------------------------------------------
Third Blog: A sound soul resides in a sound mind, which resides in a sound body
It's only taken me 28 or so odd years to be entirely comfortable in my own skin. The past few years I have been domesticated. Really. I'm happy with work - although the hours can be quite draining, but I'm happy. I'm happy with where I am now, with what I've achieved. I'm at peace.
I remember I blogged a few years ago that I felt frustrated because I didn't feel like I had achieved anything to my name. How things can change within one year, and now two years. I scarcely remember the girl who used to work at Transit - she seems so removed from who I am today. It's a nice feeling, actually, that I've become such a boring person.
I've been contemplating whether I want to ink this quote into my skin. Playing with the thought. Still playing with the thought of the girl as well - maybe both? But I really like this quote. Maybe in Kanji. On my shoulder. Or down my back.
Let's see. First though, I need to get my body into shape. That's the priority.
So now that I'm entering a new phase of my life - a new blog title needs to suit. And this one does. Now I just need to find a template.
Amen to that.
